      WHOOSH! A Disney NOVA ENGINEERING

      This is a 6-7.5-hour adventure in the Disneyland Resort organized by LAX Lone Scouts where we will be using the Disney Youth Education Series (YES) Class: Properties of Motion Physics Lab to explore how engineering affects our lives each day and to complete the requirements for the Nova Engineering WHOOSH! Award. https://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Whoosh!    About the DISNEY YES Class: scouts/students in Grades 6-12 will learn the role of mechanical physics at Disney California Adventure Park. We will study Newton's laws of motion and use the scientific method to explore the practical uses of magnetism, friction, gravity and different forms of energy. With the park as our learning lab, we will perform hands-on experiments to see and test the relationship between physics and  favorite Disney attractions. https://secure.as1.wdpromedia.com/media/youth/pdf/DLR-YES-Properties-of-Motion.pdf AGENDA: -Check-In. -3-hour Disney YES class (includes 1-2 rides together)  -45-minute Lunch Break (Pack your own or bring $ to purchase lunch at Flo’sV8 Cafe - sandwiches, salads, milkshakes, gluten-free options available). -1.5 to 2-hour NOVA Engineering program (includes 1-2 rides together) for BSA Scouts and Friends. -Check out.   FOR WHOM: Open to SCOUTS registered with ANY Council of the Boy Scouts of America, regardless of rank or gender, who are (a) in Grades 6-12 for the 2019-2020 school year, (b) at least 11-years-old by September 1, 2019, and (c) have earned ONE or more of the following Merit Badges by September 1, 2019: Archery Aviation Composite Materials Drafting Electronics Engineering Inventing Mining In Society Model Design & Building Railroading Rifle Shooting Robotics Shotgun Shooting   ALL SCOUTS can choose to come in either (a) Class A or (b) Class B with neckerchief and bring the following: water bottle, snack, pencil/pen -writing, Nova Whoosh! NOTES - PLEASE READ: 1) This is a SEMI DROP-OFF CLASS FOR SCOUTS from ANY council. SCOUTS from the SAME TROOP should be accompanied at the ratio of 4-Scouts to 1-adult (21+) from the SAME TROOP. Any parent/guardian who wishes to accompany their scout throughout the program will need to purchase a spot on the roster. Everyone pays the same price - youth or adult - there is no discount for anyone including and not limited to Disney employees, Disney annual pass holders, active/retired military, etc. 2) The price includes (a) the Disney YES ”Properties in Motion” Class, (b) one official Disney souvenir, and (c) all-day admission with in/out privileges to Disney California Adventure Park. Everyone pays the same price - there is no discount for Disney Annual Passholders, Disney Employees, Active/Retired Military, etc,  3) Parking and travel arrangements from wherever you are and the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim is your responsibility. 4) This particular Disney YES ticket can be upgraded to an annual pass within 30-days of our class date if you are interested. 5) Siblings and adults who have not paid for a spot on the class roster AND do not have valid annual passes in their name, can purchase admission tickets directly at the Disney Resort ticket booth to reunite with their students/scouts after the program ends to enjoy the park together. YES - all STUDENTS must be in Grades 6-12 for the 2019-2020 year AND 11-years-old by September 1, 2019. What can I bring into the event? Students who are Scouts must come in Class A Field uniform with (a) pencil/pen (writing), (b) water bottle, (c) snack, and (d) either a notebook or WHOOSH! Worksheet with the following requirements completed: Req 1 - either A-1, or B-1, or C-1; Req 3A; and (e) completed blue card(s) for one or more of the following merit badges for Req #2: Archery, Aviation, Composite Materials, Drafting, Electronics, Engineering, Inventing, Mining In Society, Model Design & Building, Railroading, Rifle Shooting, Robotics, and/or Shotgun Shooting. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? YES - to exchange for your Disney YES ticket + official event Souvenir. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? YES.   Can you tell me more about your organization? What are Lone Scouts? Is this class in Mandarin/Chinese? NO - the class is held in English. There are no language requirements to participate. This class is OPEN to ALL SCOUTS who are at least 11-years old, regardless of race, rank, gender, or national origin.   We cannot make this date. Do you have other dates? MAYBE in September 2020. Our first/previous Nova Engineering WHOOSH Workshop was on January 13, 2019.
